The BBC will kick off its coverage of the London 2012 Olympic football by showing Team GB men’s and women’s warm-up matches live from the Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough, on Friday 20 July.
London 2012 marks the first time that Great Britain will compete in the men’s football competition since the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, and the first time ever for the women’s team.
The double-header will be the only chance for fans to see the men’s and women’s teams play before the Olympic football tournament begins, and both warm-up games will be shown live on BBC One.
Gabby Logan presents live coverage of both matches from Middlesbrough, with Team GB women against Sweden at 3.45pm, followed by Great Britain’s men against Brazil at 7.30pm in their only warm-up match for the London Olympics.
Guy Mowbray and Lucy Ward will provide commentary on the women’s game, with Jonathan Pearce and Mark Bright on the men’s.
Guests include Faye White, Sue Smith and Robbie Savage, and reports will comes from Jacqui Oatley and Garth Crooks.
London 2012 Olympic football tournament begins two days before the opening ceremony, and BBC One will also screen live coverage of Team GB’s opening group matches.
Great Britain women’s team take on New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff (kick-off 4pm), with the men’s team kicking off their competition against Senegal at Old Trafford (kick-off 8pm), the following day.
Every match from the Olympic football will be shown live across BBC TV and online.
The BBC will have extensive coverage of all 36 sports from the Olympic Games, starting on July 27 and concluding on August 12, across TV, radio, online and mobile, including live action of every sport from every venue where it’s happening throughout each day on bbc.co.uk/sport and via the BBC’s additional Olympics TV channels.
