Reigning Super League champions Leeds Rhinos meet Warrington Wolves to battle for rugby league’s most prestigious trophy in the 2012 Carnegie Challenge Cup Final, exclusively live on BBC One.
Leeds will be hoping to shake off their losing form from their last two appearances at Wembley’s showpiece occasion, while Warrington will enjoy their third final in four years, but unlike their rivals have lifted the trophy on both previous occasions.
The Rhinos, led by head coach Brian McDermott, are appearing in their third successive final but have lost the last two, including a comprehensive 30-6 defeat to the Wolves in 2010.
That victory was the second in a row for Warrington, who also defeated Huddersfield Giants to lift the trophy in 2009, and Tony Smith’s men will start as slight favourites following their more consistent league form this season.
The Carnegie Challenge Cup is rugby league’s most historic and prestigious competition and is the only knock-out tournament of its kind to include teams from all levels of the sport.
It is an eight month long competition that starts out featuring many grassroots clubs and climaxes with a spectacular final at Wembley Stadium, London which not only attracts fans from both competing finalists but the whole Rugby League community and a nationwide TV audience.
BBC Sport will once again broadcast live coverage of English club rugby league’s showpiece occasion.
Clare Balding introduces coverage from Wembley Stadium, with the build-up starting at 2pm ahead of a 2.30pm kick-off.
She will be joined for studio analysis and comment by ex-Great Britain and Bradford Bulls coach Brian Noble and former St Helens and Wigan coach Ian Millward.
Match commentary will be provided by Dave Woods and Jonathan Davies, with touchline reports and interviews coming from Damian Johnson and Tanya Arnold.
High-definition coverage will be available on BBC One HD, and the match will be streamed live on the BBC Sport website.Saturday 25th August Challenge Cup Final LIVE – 2.00pm-5.00pm – BBC One
