Liverpool FC becomes the first Premier League club to open its doors to the cameras for a ground-breaking documentary series that goes behind the scenes with unprecedented access to the club, the players and the management.
Narrated by life-long fan Clive Owen and produced by Emmy Award-winning Scott Boggins, Being: Liverpool will make its UK debut when the first of six episodes airs exclusively on Channel 5 at 9pm on Friday, September 21.
Viewers will see the players and management as they’ve never seen them before, as the cameras take fans into the inner-workings of one of Britain’s most famous football clubs.
From the training ground, to the dressing room and the manager’s office, fans will be given an insight into how the team came to terms with the departure of their beloved manager, Kenny Dalglish, and follow the leadership of newly appointed replacement Brendan Rodgers, who took over the role during the off-season.
Filming for the documentary, which premiered on the FOX Soccer network in the United States prior to its UK screening, began just days after the FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea at the end of the 2011/12 season.
Although they won the League Cup for a record eighth time and reached the FA Cup Final, their form had been hit and miss.
They finished in eighth place, their lowest premier league position since 1994, which resulted in Kenny Dalglish being relieved of his duties in May.Being: Liverpool – Channel 5 Trailer
Cameras were allowed full access to all aspects of the club and players, on the pitch and training fields, in the gyms, changing rooms and boardrooms, at team meetings and at home.
The film captures the recruitment process as the club sought a new manager and the moment when, two weeks later, Brendan ‘Buck’ Rodgers arrived at Melwood, prior to Liverpool’s North American tour.
Under the watch of a new regime, the team gathers at Melwood Training Ground for pre-season training.
Fans will witness the beginning of a new era under Rodgers, featuring Lucas Lieva, Luis Suarez, Jon Flanagan, Charlie Adam and new signing Fabio Borini’s trip to Boston to begin Liverpool’s summer tour.
Liverpool fans will be given a rare and unique opportunity to see what life is like behind the scenes at their club throughout this six-part series.
The programme is narrated by British movie star and keen Liverpool fan Clive Owen, and all six episodes will be shown exclusively on Channel 5 on Friday nights at 9pm, with a repeat showing on 5*.
Episodes from the series will also be made available online via Channel 5’s catch-up service Demand 5.
