DARTS: BBC and ESPN to continue shared BDO World Championship coverage

BBC Sport and ESPN have reached an agreement with the British Darts Organisation (BDO) to share coverage of the 2013 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

In a similar arrangement to 2012, the BBC will broadcast live coverage of the afternoon sessions on weekends, including exclusive coverage of the final, while ESPN will screen all the evening sessions and the second semi-final exclusively live.

DARTS: William Hill Grand Slam of Darts 2012 – Live on Sky Sports

Thirty-two of the world’s greatest players descend on the Wolverhampton Civic Hall for the 2012 William Hill Grand Slam of Darts, live on Sky Sports.

Held over nine days, the competition was the first in the UK to see players from the sport’s rival organisations, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and the British Darts Organisation (BDO).

DARTS: ESPN to broadcast 2012 World Masters

ESPN will broadcast live coverage of the BDO Winmau World Masters for a second consecutive year.

The tournament will take place between October 10-14 at Hull’s City Hall, with ESPN broadcasting exclusively live coverage of key sessions over the final three days.

DARTS: Sid Waddell – 1940-2012

Sid Waddell, the man known to millions as ‘the voice of darts’, has passed away at the age of 72.

He had been battling bowel cancer since last September and the news of his death was confirmed on Sunday morning (August 12).

A statement from his manager Dick Allix read: “With great sadness, we announce that following a long illness, broadcaster and author Sid Waddell died peacefully with all his family around him late last night, Saturday August 11th, 2012.”

DARTS: ESPN to screen 2012 European Championship

ESPN will broadcast live and exclusive coverage of the European Darts Championship as the top players in Europe compete in Germany this September.

Viewers will be able to watch live action from each day of the tournament as ESPN and the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) team up for the first time to broadcast a major darts event.

DARTS: Game on for women’s TV darts campaign

When it emerged that the women’s matches at the recent BDO World Professional Darts Championships were not going to be televised live anywhere in the UK, Julie Lambie and Luci Cunningham were outraged at the decision made by the TV companies to refuse to show it.

They decided to do something about it, and following a determined campaign they both managed to play a significant part in bringing the women’s final to our screens in January.

Sport On The Box spoke to Julie about the campaign’s success and her plans to increase the profile of the ladies game.

DARTS: BDO Lakeside World Professional Championship 2012 – Live on BBC / ESPN

BBC and ESPN will be screening over 60 hours of coverage from the 2012 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

Now in 35th year, the British Darts Organisation’s premier tournament will feature 32 of its top players, including reigning three-time champion Martin Adams, 2011 runner-up Dean Winstanley, two-time winner Ted Hankey, and 2010 Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites.
