FORMULA 1: Sky Sports to screen Barcelona test live and in 3D

Sky Sports will broadcast live coverage of Formula 1 pre-season testing for the first time when it covers the final test Barcelona at the end of February.

In a world first, every session of the test will also be covered in stunning 3D on the Sky 3D channel, that Formula 1 has been covered in the format.

Sky 3D and Sky Sports F1 viewers will be able to watch live action from the Circuit de Catalunya on all four days of the test, the last before the 2013 Formula 1 season starts in Australia, from February 28 to March 3.

LONDON 2012: Closing Ceremony – Live on BBC One

After 16 days of tense and exciting competition that will live long in the memory, the curtain falls on the 30th Olympiad in spectacular fashion with the traditional closing ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in the East End of London.

BBC One will broadcast live and uninterrupted coverage of the London’s closing ceremony as the city bids farewell to the Games, featuring an event that will pay homage to Britain’s illustrious musical heritage.

Beginning at 9.00pm, and featuring more than 4,000 performers, including 3,500 volunteers, the show is entitled ‘A Symphony of British Music’, and celebrates one of the nation’s greatest cultural exports over the past 50 years.

LONDON 2012: Olympics Watch – Tues 31st July

London 2012 enters its fourth day of competition and there is plenty to enjoy from a British perspective throughout the day.

Forty years have passed since GB last won team eventing gold, but this is their strongest team in generations. The team final begins at 10.30am on BBC One with the individual final, where British hopes are also high, to follow.

William Fox-Pitt (above) will be a strong contender in the individual final, with German Michael Jung is aiming to achieve an unprecedented hat-trick – by winning the World, European and Olympic titles in the same year.

LONDON 2012: Opening Ceremony – Live on BBC One

Seven years after the announcement that the 2012 Olympic Games were to be held in London, the moment has finally arrived as the city hosts what promises to be a spectacular Opening Ceremony.

One billion people are expected to be watching worldwide as an 80,000 capacity crowd fills the purpose-built stadium in the East End for the official start of the 30th Olympiad.

The BBC will have build-up to this great occasion throughout the day across TV and radio, followed by live and uninterrupted coverage of the whole opening ceremony itself from 21:00 BST.

BROADCASTING: British Eurosport to launch HD channels

July 3, 2012

Eurosport has announced that it will introduce high-definition versions of its two UK-based channels. 

The pan-European broadcaster will launch a HD simulcast of British Eurosport on both Sky and Virgin Media platforms from July 25, in time for the start of its coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

This will be followed five weeks later by the launch of British Eurosport 2 HD on Sky, meaning both channels will be fully HD on the Sky platform by September 3.
