As British football’s most successful manager steps down after 26 years in charge at Manchester United, BBC Sport pays tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson in a Football Focus special. 

Football Focus presenter Dan Walker introduces ‘Fergie Time’, a special tribute programme tonight (May 8) on BBC One at 10.35pm that will look back at Ferguson’s extraordinary managerial career with the red devils, where the 71-year-old amassed a sensational 38 trophies during his lengthy spell in charge.

FOOTBALL: UEFA Euro 2012 – Live on the BBC

It is the biggest ever summer of sport on the BBC, and the UEFA European Football Championships in Poland and Ukraine will take centre stage throughout the whole of June, with extensive TV, radio and online coverage.

Kicking off on June 8 and culminating with the final in Kiev on July 1, the BBC TV’s coverage of the continent’s showpiece event will be led once again by Gary Lineker, with 16 live games to broadcast on BBC One and BBC Three, including a potential England quarter final, both semi finals and the final.

FOOTBALL: BBC holds on to Premier League highlights until 2016

Match of the Day will stay on the air until at least 2016 after the BBC secured a new three-year extension to screen Premier League highlights, taking the programme through to its 50th anniversary.

The BBC has retained their free-to-air highlights package, including the traditional Saturday evening Match of the Day programme, the Sunday morning repeat, Match of the Day 2 on Sunday evenings, and selected midweek editions for the occasions when Premier League fixtures justify a show.

The new £180m deal, a 3.9% increase on the £173m it pays for its current deal, starts from the beginning of the 2013/2014 season.

FOOTBALL: Harry Redknapp to join BBC Sport for Euro 2012

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is to join the BBC Sport team as a pundit for this summer’s European Football Championships.

Redknapp, who had been linked with the England manager’s job, will instead join up with BBC regulars Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer and Lee Dixon to offer expert analysis on the matches in Poland and Ukraine.

Kicking off on June 8, the BBC’s Euro 2012 coverage will be led by Gary Lineker, with special guests including Jurgen Klinsmann, Clarence Seedorf and David James.

BBC TV will show 16 live games, including a potential England quarter-finals, both semi-finals, and the final, shared with ITV, on July 1.
