SPORTS VIEW: Chappers – From Radio 1 to MOTD2

Match of the Day 2 will be given a shake-up from the beginning of the 2013/14 season when Colin Murray hands over the presenting baton to 5 Live colleague Mark Chapman.

‘Chappers’ is regarded by BBC bosses as a more suitable host than Murray, who began anchoring the show in 2010 after Adrian Chiles left for ITV. The Northern Irishman often generates a tidal wave of negative opinion from football fans when the show airs on Sunday nights.

FOOTBALL: Mark Chapman to replace Colin Murray as Match of the Day 2 presenter

Colin Murray has been dropped by the BBC as presenter of Match of the Day 2 after three years in the role.

The Northern Irishman, who took over from Adrian Chiles after his defection to ITV in 2010, is set to be replaced at the end of the current Premier League season by Mark Chapman.

According to the Daily Mail’s Charlie Sale, Chapman is regarded by BBC bosses as a “more suitable host for a programme that increasingly features the most important Premier League matches of the weekend”.

DARTS: BDO Lakeside World Professional Championships 2013 – Live on BBC TV & ESPN

BBC Sport and ESPN will have comprehensive coverage of the 2013 BDO Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships from January 5-13.

Dutchman Christian Kist and Russia’s Anastasia Dobromyslova return to the famous Lakeside Country Club in Surrey to defend their titles against the best players from the BDO circuit.

For the second year running, both the BBC and ESPN will share live coverage of the nine-day tournament, culminating with the men’s final exclusively live on BBC Two on January 13.

BOXING: Ricky Hatton’s comeback live on Primetime

Ricky Hatton’s return to the ring against Ukrainian Vyacheslav Senchenko will be broadcast exclusively live by pay-per-view sports channel Primetime.

Former WBA welterweight champion Senchenko is expected to be a tough opponent for ‘The Hitman’ as he makes his comeback after a three-year absence in front of a sell-out home crowd at the Manchester Arena on Saturday, November 24 (fight start: 10pm approx).

The PPV broadcaster will screen the headline fight as well as three undercard fights from 7.00pm on channel 498 on Sky, Virgin on-Demand, streamed live via the Primetime website, and in selected pubs/bars and cinemas across the UK.

DARTS: BBC and ESPN to continue shared BDO World Championship coverage

BBC Sport and ESPN have reached an agreement with the British Darts Organisation (BDO) to share coverage of the 2013 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

In a similar arrangement to 2012, the BBC will broadcast live coverage of the afternoon sessions on weekends, including exclusive coverage of the final, while ESPN will screen all the evening sessions and the second semi-final exclusively live.

FOOTBALL: Match of the Day 2 switches to BBC One

Match Of The Day 2 will move permanently to BBC One on Sunday nights for the start of the 2012/13 season, switching channels from BBC Two.

With an increased number of Premier League games now played on a Sunday, the BBC has decided to switch its Sunday edition of the popular Premier League highlights show to BBC One in order to ‘bring all of the weekend’s football action to its audiences via the nation’s favourite channel’.
