FOOTBALL: David Beckham and Sky join forces to promote grassroots sport

David Beckham is to join Sky Sports as an ambassador promoting its grassroots sport initiative Living for Sport.

Described as a ‘long-term partnership’, the deal will see Beckham play a leading role across the breadth of Sky’s work to support grassroots sport and encourage participation across Britain and Ireland.

The former England captain, who now plays for France’s Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain, will also feature in adverts to promote the media giant’s range of live sport and services.

FOOTBALL: UEFA Champions League 2012/13 – Quarter Finals, 2nd Legs – Live on ITV & Sky Sports

The cream of Europe’s footballing crop contest the quarter-finals of the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League during the first two weeks of April.

There maybe no British representation in the last eight of the competition for the first time since 1996, but there will certainly be plenty to look forward to with all eight games from the quarter-final stages live on ITV and Sky Sports.

Eight of the biggest names in European football, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid, are still in the hunt to lift the famous trophy at Wembley in May.

FOOTBALL: UEFA Champions League 2012/13 – Last 16, 2nd Legs – Live on ITV & Sky Sports

The knockout stages of Europe’s premier club competition continues in early March with eight second leg ties from the last 16 of this season’s UEFA Champions League – all broadcast live on ITV and Sky Sports.

ITV has live coverage of the deciding legs of two huge European clashes as Manchester United and Real Madrid lock horns at Old Trafford on March5, followed a week later by AC Milan’s trip to the Nou Camp to defend a 3-1 lead against the mighty Barcelona..

Sky Sports will screen all the other six ties over the two remaining matchdays in the last 16 phase, including the deciding legs in the Arsenal v Bayern Munich and Celtic v Juventus ties, where the British sides have a mountain to climb if they are to assure progression to the quarter-finals.

Europe’s premier club competition enters the knockout stages in February and all 16 games from the last 16 of this season’s UEFA Champions League will be broadcast live on ITV and Sky Sports.

ITV has live coverage of the first legs between Celtic and Juventus, followed by Arsenal’s tough tie against last season’s runners-up Bayern Munich.

Then two mouthwatering second legs follow exclusively live on ITV as Manchester United host Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid at Old Trafford, with Barcelona to come a week later.

Sky Sports will screen all the other 12 ties over four matchdays in the last 16 phase, including the deciding legs in the Arsenal v Bayern Munich and Celtic v Juventus ties, plus the first legs ties between Real Madrid and Manchester United, as well as AC Milan v Barcelona.

FOOTBALL: David Beckham’s MLS finale – Live on ESPN

ESPN will broadcast a selection of programmes dedicated to David Beckham as he prepares to depart the MLS after five years in the United States.

The channel will air a live one-hour special edition of ESPNFC Press Pass entitled Beckham’s Goodbye To Hollywood on Friday, December 1, which includes an exclusive one-on-one interview with the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star himself.

Then on Saturday night, ESPN will have live and exclusive UK coverage of the MLS Cup Final between Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy and the Houston Dynamo, as Beckham tries to help Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane and the rest of his Galaxy teammates to a second straight title.
