The world’s greatest motorcycle road race returns to ITV4 in early June as riders from across the globe gather on the Isle of Man for 2013 TT Races.

This legendary event has attracted teams, riders and fans from around the world for more than 100 years and 2013 will be no
exception with a truly international line up assembled once more.

ITV4 will dedicate its prime time schedules to a raft of new documentaries, special features and extensive highlights of every race during the final week of this year’s event, which runs from May 25 to June 7.

MOTORSPORT: Dakar Rally: Frontline to Finish Line – Documentary on ITV4

A new two-part documentary following a group of injured soldiers in their pursuit of being the first amputee team to take on the world’s toughest rally will be broadcast on ITV4 this week.

Dakar Rally: Frontline to Finish Line follows Race2Recovery, a team of seriously injured servicemen from Britain and the US, as they took on the world’s toughest and challenging rallys earlier this year.

The first one-hour episode will be shown on ITV4 and ITV4 HD at 9pm on Wednesday, April 24, followed by the second instalment on Friday, April 26, also at 9pm.

RACING: Grand National 2013 – Live on Channel 4

The biggest test for racehorse and jockey awaits the runners of the world’s most famous horse race – the John Smith’s Grand National – live for the first time ever on Channel 4.

Known as the ‘People’s Race’, it captures the hearts and the imagination of inveterate racing fans and once-a-year viewers alike.

At four-and-a-half miles it is a marathon horse race in the extreme, severely testing the partnership between jockey and horse as they strive to clear 30 fences and negotiate two circuits of the famous Aintree course on their way to sporting immortality.

Channel 4 will broadcast the 2013 edition of the nation’s favourite horse race live on Saturday, April 6, as well as extensive coverage of all three days of the Aintree meeting (April 4-6), plus a range of support programming building up to the world’s most iconic horse race.

The glory days of British motor racing are to be celebrated in a new BBC Four series which buffs up some of the BBC’s most memorable coverage from the sport’s earliest days.

‘Motor Racing at the BBC: That Petrol Emotion’ is a five-part series which tells the compelling story of the early days of Formula 1 – from the 1950s through to the 1970s – courtesy of images from the BBC archives.

From track to paddock to a changing Britain beyond, and driven by a powerful period soundtrack, this new series is motor racing’s version of ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Years’.

RACING: ‘Jump Boys’ – Documentary on Channel 4

Ahead of the 2013 Cheltenham Festival, Channel 4 will screen a candid documentary that explores the extraordinary lives and bravery of National Hunt jockeys.

Three of Ireland’s top jockeys, Ruby Walsh, Barry Geraghty and Davy Russell, allowed exclusive fly-on-the-wall access to their National Hunt season from November 2011 to April 2012.

The one-hour Jump Boys documentary, narrated by Alastair Down, gives viewers an in-depth, no-holds-barred glimpse into one of the toughest professions in world sport.

FOOTBALL: ‘First Among Equals: The Laurie Cunningham Story’ – New documentary on ITV

The story of Laurie Cunningham, who became the first black footballer to play for England at any level when he was selected for an under-21 international against Scotland in 1977, is to be told in a new ITV documentary.

A watershed moment in both British sport and culture, ‘First Among Equals: The Laurie Cunningham Story’ reflects on the ground-breaking career of the first black footballer to pull on an England shirt, whose impact on the game continues to be felt decades after he was killed in a car accident aged just 33.

Featuring interviews with Vincente Del Bosque, Cyrille Regis, Viv Anderson, Peter Reid, Ian Wright, John Barnes, Paul Ince and many more, the documentary will be broadcast on Wednesday, March 6th at 10.35pm on ITV, and at 11.05pm on STV and UTV.

TV: BBC Three to air Oscar Pistorius documentary

BBC Three will screen a fast-turnaround one-off documentary on the murder of Reeva Steenkamp who was allegedly shot to death by her boyfriend Oscar Pistorius.

The South African superstar, who won two gold medals and a silver at the Paralympic Games in London in 2012, is accused of murder, though pleads not guilty.

Rick Edwards, who recently made his debut fronting BBC Three’s Free Speech and presented Channel 4’s breakfast show during the Paralympics last summer, will present the new BBC Three documentary entitled ‘Oscar Pistorious: What Really Happened?’.

MOTORSPORT: ‘Driven: The Fastest Woman in the World’ – Documentary on BBC Two

Williams F1 test driver Susie Wolff will appear in a new BBC documentary about her life as the only current female driver in the world of Formula 1.

Entitled ‘Driven: The Fastest Women in the World’, the 50-minute film presents a unique perspective and profile the Scottish racing driver as she faces her biggest challenge yet – becoming the first woman in a generation to test a Formula 1 car.

The documentary will premiere on BBC Two Scotland on Sunday, March 24th at 8.00pm, and also features contributions from 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton, as well as 13-times F1 winner and BBC commentator David Coulthard.

It will also be given a full network showing across the UK on BBC Two at 5.30pm on Sunday, April 14.

MOTORSPORT: Manx Grand Prix documentary to air on ITV4

ITV4 will screen a new documentary film which chronicles the thrills and spills of the annual Manx Grand Prix on February 5.

Entitled Grand Prix Racer, the production focuses on the eventual goings on at both the 2012 and 2011 editions of the event on the Isle of Man.

Produced by island-based company Greenlight Television, it is hoped that the broadcast will raise the profile of the event, which remains one of the most popular events of its kind in the world.

FOOTBALL: Gary Speed tribute on S4C

A moving documentary about the life and legacy of the late Gary Speed will be broadcast by S4C on Thursday, December 27 at 8.25pm.

Presented by his former Wales team-mate John Hartson, the programme is the first detailed portrait to be broadcast on television with the full co-operation of Gary’s family.

The documentary will examine the personal qualities that made Gary so highly regarded and universally admired by those from inside and outside the game.

BOXING: Ricky Hatton’s comeback live on Primetime

Ricky Hatton’s return to the ring against Ukrainian Vyacheslav Senchenko will be broadcast exclusively live by pay-per-view sports channel Primetime.

Former WBA welterweight champion Senchenko is expected to be a tough opponent for ‘The Hitman’ as he makes his comeback after a three-year absence in front of a sell-out home crowd at the Manchester Arena on Saturday, November 24 (fight start: 10pm approx).

The PPV broadcaster will screen the headline fight as well as three undercard fights from 7.00pm on channel 498 on Sky, Virgin on-Demand, streamed live via the Primetime website, and in selected pubs/bars and cinemas across the UK.
