The glory days of British motor racing are to be celebrated in a new BBC Four series which buffs up some of the BBC’s most memorable coverage from the sport’s earliest days.

‘Motor Racing at the BBC: That Petrol Emotion’ is a five-part series which tells the compelling story of the early days of Formula 1 – from the 1950s through to the 1970s – courtesy of images from the BBC archives.

From track to paddock to a changing Britain beyond, and driven by a powerful period soundtrack, this new series is motor racing’s version of ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Years’.

MOTORSPORT: ITV4 to air virtual-to-reality GT Academy series

ITV4 will screen a new series of six programmes covering Nissan’s groundbreaking GT Academy, starting on February 4.

GT Academy challenges the conventions of motorsport by taking some of the fastest gamers in the world and fast tracking one of them to become a professional racing driver with the famous Japanese marque.

The series of high-octane, character-driven programmes will be broadcast across six weeks by ITV4 on Monday evenings at 8pm.

TV: Sporting Heroes – New series on Sky Sports

A new 12-part series on Sky Sports will take you up close and personal with some of the biggest stars in the world of sport.

Sporting Heroes invites a host of big names to take part in an hour-long interview to bring Sky Sports viewers an in-depth look at some of the biggest names from a variety of disiplines.

Veteran sports broadcaster Gary Newbon will introduce each episode and conduct three of the interviews in series, but in twist compared to most series of its kind it will be also asking sports stars to interview their own sporting heroes, bringing viewers an even more unique insight into their lives and careers.

MOTORSPORT: Racing Legends – New series on BBC Two

A new series celebrating the lives of three legendary names from the world of motorsport will be broadcast as part of BBC Two’s Christmas schedule.

Racing Legends follows three high-profile car enthusiasts as they retrace the steps of Great British racing legends – Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart and Colin McRae.

Through a combination of revealing interviews with family and friends and fascinating archive footage, each celebrity will pay tribute to the racing legend by learning what made them great by spending time with them and the people who knew them best.
