BOXING: Ricky Burns becomes the latest fighter to join Matchroom Boxing and Sky Sports

Ricky Burns has joined Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing after the promoter confirmed the Scottish fighter’s controversial switch from Frank Warren’s stable.

The two-weight World Champion will fight for the first time under Eddie Hearn live on Sky Sports on May 11, at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

Burns’ last outing was his comprehensive win over Kevin Mitchell at the SECC in Glasgow on September, where the 29-year-old defended his WBO Lightweight title in style with a fourth round stoppage.

The Scottish fighter’s departure from Frank Warren’s stable follows just days after George Groves made the same move across to Matchroom.

BOXING: George Groves returns to Sky Sports after signing with Matchroom Sport

George Groves has become the latest fighter to link up with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Sky Sports following his split with promoter Frank Warren.

The highly-rated unbeaten Commonwealth super-middleweight champion will box for the first time under his new promoter on the Betfair ‘London’s Finest’ bill at Wembley Arena in London, on Saturday, March 9 – live on Sky Sports – when he takes on Argentine Dario German Balmaceda in a ten-round clash.

Groves is also the first fighter to be confirmed for the undercard of the huge Sky Box Office clash between Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler at the O2 Arena in London on May 25.

BOXING: ‘Flintoff – From Lord’s to the Ring’ – New series on Sky 1

Former England cricketer Freddie Flintoff’s preparations for his debut as a professional boxer will be the subject of a new documentary series on Sky 1 HD.

Entitled ‘Flintoff: From Lord’s to the Ring’, the 2005 and 2009 Ashes hero, who was forced to retire from cricket through injury at the age of 33, has opted for an unexpected and controversial career change.

Flintoff will make his professional heavyweight boxing debut on November 30, and this must-see three-part Sky 1 series has the complete journey of the build-up towards arguably the biggest challenge of his decorated sporting career.

European super-middleweight champion James Degale has split from Frank Warren’s promotional stable to link up with rivals Hennessy Sports.

The 2008 Olympic gold medallist has signed a long-term contract with Mick Hennessy and all of his fights will now be broadcast exclusively on Channel 5.

DeGale will make his debut for his new promoter on October 13 when he defends his European Super Middleweight title against ­Hadillah Mohoumadi of France.
