MOTORSPORT: BT Sport secures exclusive MotoGP rights from 2014 season

BT Sport has won exclusive rights to broadcast the MotoGP World Championship in a five-year deal starting from the 2014 season.

The agreement with promoter Dorna Sports will see MotoGP programming at the forefront of a quality line-up of top domestic and international sports on the new BT Sport channels, but means the championship loses free-to-air terrestrial coverage.

BT outbid strong competition from the BBC, the current rights holders, and pay-TV rivals Sky Sports.

MOTORSPORT: ITV4 to screen highlights of inaugural BRDC Formula 4 Championship

The inaugural BRDC Formula 4 Championship will be broadcast on free-to-air television in 2013 after series organisers MSV secured a highlights deal with ITV.

Created by former grand prix driver Jonathan Palmer’s MotorSport Vision (MSV), the new championship has been created to help young drivers in their attempts to bridge the gap between junior single-seater formulae and a potential career in Formula 1.

An hour-long show will be screened one week after each of the eight events in a prime-time Sunday evening slot on ITV4 and in high-definition on ITV4 HD.

MOTORSPORT: ITV4 to air virtual-to-reality GT Academy series

January 13, 2013

ITV4 will screen a new series of six programmes covering Nissan’s groundbreaking GT Academy, starting on February 4.

GT Academy challenges the conventions of motorsport by taking some of the fastest gamers in the world and fast tracking one of them to become a professional racing driver with the famous Japanese marque.

The series of high-octane, character-driven programmes will be broadcast across six weeks by ITV4 on Monday evenings at 8pm.

MOTORSPORT: Racing Legends – New series on BBC Two

A new series celebrating the lives of three legendary names from the world of motorsport will be broadcast as part of BBC Two’s Christmas schedule.

Racing Legends follows three high-profile car enthusiasts as they retrace the steps of Great British racing legends – Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart and Colin McRae.

Through a combination of revealing interviews with family and friends and fascinating archive footage, each celebrity will pay tribute to the racing legend by learning what made them great by spending time with them and the people who knew them best.

MOTORSPORT: ‘Britain’s Next F1 Star’ – New series on Sky Sports F1

Rising British motorsport prospects will be profiled in a new six-part series to be shown on Sky Sports F1, starting on October 7.

Entitled ‘Britain’s Next F1 Star’, the documentaries will take an in-depth look at the next generation of British drivers who are attempting to reach the pinnacle of motorsport.

The six drivers featured – Seb Morris, Jordan King, Josh Hill, Alice Powell, Dean Smith and Alex Brundle – are all already working their way up the racing ladder, and Sky Sports F1 has been given unprecedented access to the drivers and their families.

MOTORSPORT: Mega ITV BTCC coverage continues

ITV’s comprehensive coverage of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season continues this afternoon on TV and online.

ITV4 and ITV4 HD will show highlights of all the BTCC action from Brands Hatch’s opening round of the season from 4.30pm-6.00pm this afternoon (Tues 5 April).

Those highlights will then be repeated later this week on both the ITV1 and ITV1 HD channels from 2.35am on Friday (8 April).
