RUGBY UNION: Lawrence Dallaglio joins BT Sport

Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio has signed with BT Sport to become its chief analyst on its rugby union coverage.

Dallaglio, 40, is the first major signing for BT Sport’s exclusive live coverage of up to 69 live rugby matches a season from the Aviva Premiership.

He will be a co-commentator for some live matches and studio pundit for other live clashes when BT Sport launches in the summer.

RUGBY UNION: BT wins exclusive Premiership rights

BT and Premiership Rugby have announced one of the biggest broadcast deals in the history of English club rugby, signing a contract worth up to £152 million for a range of exclusive live rights over a four year period.

In a ground-breaking new broadcast deal, BT will have the exclusive live rights to show Aviva Premiership Rugby for the next four years, as well as the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Sevens series, from the 2013/14 season.

BT has also been given exclusive rights to matches played by Premiership clubs in any future European competitions from 2014/15 for three years, though this part of the deal has been questioned by the ERC, the organisers of both premier European club competitions, who claim that the English Premiership’s governing body does not have the authority to distribute the rights.

RUGBY UNION: ESPN & Sky Sports confirm opening live Aviva Premiership games

ESPN and Sky Sports have announced their first set of live Aviva Premiership matches that will be shown over the opening eight rounds of the season.

Defending champions Harlequins will kick off the 2012/13 campaign when they take on London Wasps in a double-header at Twickenham, also featuring Saracens against London Irish, with both games live in front of ESPN cameras on September 1.

Newly promoted London Welsh face 2010 champions Leicester in their debut match in English rugby union’s top flight, and this will be the first of nine live games on Sky Sports between September and November.

FOOTBALL: Sky Sports & ESPN reveal first set of live Premier League games

Sky Sports and ESPN have announced their opening live Barclays Premier League matches for the first four months of the 2012/2013 season.

Defending champions Manchester City, runners-up Manchester United and UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea will kick off the new season on Sky Sports.

The first televised match of the season will be screened by ESPN on the opening day of the campaign, with Newcastle United taking on Tottenham Hotspur.
