Among all the fairytales that Great Britain’s success at London 2012 seems to be throwing up by the day, the triumph of a fifty-something who have battled back from career-threatening injuries surely ranks among the most remarkable.

Nick Skelton (above), who at the age of 54 is competing in his sixth consecutive Olympic Games, drew on all his experience in a nerve-jangling jump-off to help deliver Great Britain’s first showjumping gold medal in 60 years at a euphoric Greenwich Park on Monday.

Following an outstanding weekend for British athletes across a variety of Olympic disciplines, the action continues into the second week with more gold medal prospects for the host nation.

Reigning 400m hurdles world champion Dai Greene gets the chance to add Olympic gold to his collection, but he has a huge task on his hands to add Olympic gold after scraping into the final with the seventh-fastest time.

EQUESTRIAN: Hickstead Derby 2012 – Live on Sky Sports

The All England Jumping Course will once again play host to the Hickstead Derby, one of the most iconic equestrian events in the world.

Originally founded in 1960 by the late Douglas Bunn, this will be the 51st running of the Derby, known officially as the British Jumping Derby Meeting, on the course that holds as much prestige as the horses and riders that compete.

Sky Sports will have exclusive coverage of the final three days of the event, featuring the showpiece event of the week, the Carpetright Derby, on Sunday, June 24.
