BROADCASTING: Matchroom Sport seals new Sky Sports deal for fishing, pool and ping pong

Matchroom Sport has announced a new agreement with Sky Sports to continue its coverage of a wide variety of popular sporting events for a further five years.

Founded by Barry Hearn, the sports company’s new agreement guarantees nearly 200 hours of coverage from ten events on Sky Sports each year, including some of its most well-known sporting properties such as the Mosconi Cup, Fish ‘O’ Mania and the World Championship of Ping Pong.

The deal runs up to the end of 2017 and extends the long-standing relationship between the two organisations to over 25 years.

MOTORSPORT: ITV extends BTCC coverage to 2016

ITV will continue to broadcast live free-to-air television coverage of the MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) until at least the end of 2016.

With one year of the current agreement remaining a new three-year addition to the existing partnership has been agreed, securing the BTCC’s vast ITV broadcasting agreement for the next four seasons.

All BTCC race days will continue to be broadcast live on both ITV4, ITV4 HD and online via, with late-night highlights on ITV.

BASKETBALL: NBA agrees new UK TV deal with ESPN

The NBA will be back on UK television screens after the league and ESPN announced a new agreement for live coverage of the remainder of the 2012-13 season in the UK and Ireland.

ESPN’s coverage begins this Thursday (December 6) with New York Knicks at Miami Heat, and the channel will bring basketball fans three live games per week throughout the remainder of the regular-season.

No UK TV deal was put in place at the beginning of the season in October, meaning fans missed out on watching the opening games on television and instead had to view them online via subscription on the NBA website.

RUGBY UNION: Sky Sports announces new four-year European rugby deal

Sky Sports has announced a new four-year deal with the ERC for exclusive live coverage of the Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup.

The extended contract starts in the autumn of 2014, and will extend the long-standing relationship with the ERC to the end of the 2017/2018 season, a 15th year.

ERC’s new deal with Sky comes on the same day that BT won exclusive rights to screen Aviva Premiership matches from 2013, as well as selected matches from European competitions involving English clubs from 2014, but this part of the agreement has been questioned by the ERC who claim that it breaches International Rugby Board (IRB) regulations.

BOXING: Matchroom Sport announces two-year deal with Sky Sports

Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport have signed a new agreement to be the principal boxing promoter on Sky Sports for the next two years.

Matchroom Boxing will stage up to 20 live shows on Sky Sports during both seasons featuring Hearn’s ever-expanding stable of world class boxers, including Carl Froch and Kell Brook.
