TENNIS: ESPN announces ATP and WTA Tour schedule for 2013

ESPN has announced its schedule of live ATP 250 and WTA Tour tournaments for 2013 featuring the world’s best players.

Following ESPN’s coverage of the ATP Brisbane International in January, where Wimbledon runner-up and London 2012 Olympic champion Andy Murray retained his title, the line-up of top international tennis continues throughout the year with a further 14 tournaments set be covered from February to November.

TENNIS: BT Sport secures women’s tennis rights

BT Sport has signed a four-year deal with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to screen 800 hours of tennis a year in the first in a host of new deals that will form part of its live sports portfolio from the summer.

The telecoms giant’s fledgling sports channel will show live matches from 21 WTA tournaments across the globe, including the season-ending showpiece, the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships.

With BT’s new sports channels set to launch in July, the remainder of the 2013 WTA season from then will be broadcast jointly by BT and previous rights-holder British Eurosport, with BT taking over exclusive rights from 2014 onwards.

TENNIS: WTA Championships 2012 – Live on British Eurosport

British Eurosport will broadcast live coverage of the season-ending TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships from Istanbul.

The finale to the WTA Tour season features this year’s top eight singles players and top four doubles teams, who will be competing for a share of almost $5m in prize money at the Sinan Erdem Dome from October 23-28.

TENNIS: British Eurosport to screen Laura Robson’s first WTA Tour final

Britain’s Laura Robson competes in her first WTA final as she takes on Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-Wei in the Guangzhou International Open.

British Eurosport has announced that it has put together a last-minute deal to broadcast exclusive live coverage of the match, starting at 8am on Saturday, September 22.

The 18-year-old will be looking to cause another huge upset and become the first British woman to win a WTA Tour event in 24 years.

TENNIS: ESPN secures ATP and WTA tennis rights

ESPN has made its first significant foray into tennis in the UK after securing the rights to screen 15 tournaments from the men’s and women’s tours throughout 2012.

The broadcaster will screen 11 events from the ATP World Tour 250 series, the third tier of tournaments on the men’s tour, as well as three WTA Tour tournaments and a special exhibition event, all featuring some of the world’s top tennis stars who will be competing for valuable ranking points between the Grand Slams.
