Sport On The Box presents a comprehensive guide to when and where to watch your favourite events this weekend.
With so many great sporting events taking place over one bumper weekend – from Froch v Kessler II to the UEFA Champions League Final, Monaco Grand Prix to French Open tennis and the Aviva Premiership Final to Wentworth’s BMW PGA Championship, it is all set to be a unmissable 48 hours for armchair fans.
It’s hard to pick one outstanding event amongst so many, but the super-fight at London’s O2 Arena looks set to top the bill.
Carl Froch is looking to defend his world title and exact revenge on Mikkel Kessler in a mouth-watering clash in London and Sky Sports Box Office has all the action via pay-per-view for £14.95.
The two last met in the latter’s homeland back in 2010 – a fight that will go down as one of the great fights – with Kessler awarded a narrow and controversial points victory at the end of 12 brutal rounds.
These two genuine warriors are already promising more of the same, and any repeat of that toe-to-toe slugfest in Herning would see them etch their names in boxing history as one of ‘the’ great rivalries.
The football season draws to a conclusion with the UEFA Champions League final, as German rivals Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich meet at Wembley, live on both ITV and Sky Sports 1.
There is also the Scottish Cup final on Sunday with Celtic playing Hibernian, while the FA Women’s Cup final returns to terrestrial television for the first time since 2009 as Arsenal take on Bristol Academy for the most prestigious trophy in English women’s football.
Formula 1 roars back into action this week with the staging of the most famous race on the calendar around the tight and twisting streets of Monte-Carlo.
Sebastian Vettel holds a four-point advantage over Kimi Raikkonen in the standings as Red Bull aim for their fourth consecutive Monaco Grand Prix victory, exclusively live on Sky Sports F1 and tea-time highlights on BBC One.
European Tour golf’s flagship event reaches its conclusion as all of Europe’s winning team from the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ vie for the BMW PGA Championship trophy at Wentworth, with live coverage on Sky Sports and highlights on BBC Two.
Also this weekend the domestic rugby union season concludes with both the Aviva Premiership and RaboDirect Pro12 finals, England play New Zealand in the second Test at Headingley, the Indian Premier League reaches its conclusion, two-weeks of clay court drama commences at Roland Garros and Super League’s Magic Weekend returns to the Etihad Stadium.
Not to mention a brilliant weekend of top class international athletics in Manchester, the climax to cycling’s Giro d’Italia, netball’s Superleague Grand Final, World Superbikes at Donington and the famous Indianapolis 500 race, it all adds up to a manic weekend of TV sport.
